Road Trip Day 5: Dodge City, KS

This morning, Mrs. Rita served us a wonderful blue-berry-pancake breakfast and sent us on our way in prayer. She also told us about a town on our way called Greensburg, which was apparently destroyed by one of the worst (if not the worst) tornadoes to hit Kansas.

When we stopped to get something to eat, we were informed that it was not 1 tornado, but 127 tornadoes that all hit in less than a minute. Shortly after lunch, we arrived in Greensburg...and we stood in awe of what we saw. All the trees were stripped of their leaves and bark, trees had household items wrapped up in them, houses were either tore up or nonexistent (of which most were nonexistent), and huge piles of debris were everywhere from cleanup. We stopped to see what we could do to help, but they said they had all the volunteers they needed at the present time. Before we headed on to Dodge City, we took pictures of the damage that was done (which will hopefully be posted soon) as we stood in awe of the amazing power of God. I told the guys that if God can cause that much damage to a town in 45 seconds, I would hate to spend an eternity in hell.

When we arrived in Dodge City, we met up with Kirk Larson, pastor of Grace Community Church . Pastor Kirk is actually the husband of a lady Mrs. Rita met at a parent's meeting at the Air Force Academy (where Mrs. Larson's daughter attends) -- I say that simply to say that God knows exactly what he is doing! Pastor Kirk asked us several questions to get to know us, then he asked us to share our testimony...which was a blessing for us as well...and an answer to prayer because Austin had just prayed for God to allow us to see what He had done in our lives!

After talking with Pastor Kirk, we headed to the mall, which was filled with...ummm...6, maybe 7 people total. I'm exaggerating, but there were not many people there. However, we did get to have a lot of awesome conversations with some people there and plant several seeds. When we left the mall, we followed Pastor Kirk to his house and he cooked us an amazing dinner! We also got to meet his younger daughter (Jamie) and her friend (Michael), who also ate with us.

And here I am...typing blog posts while the other boys catch up on some Z's for the night. Just like every other day, today was another incredible day that the Lord made. God's provision becomes more and more evident each and every day we journey across America. Tomorrow (or actually later on today if you wanna get technical) we will drive 5 hours to Pueblo, CO where we do have a place to stay.

Remember to place your faith in Christ and Christ alone in EVERYTHING you do, EVERY situation you face, and EVERYWHERE you go! God's grace and thanks for keeping us in your prayers...

Gladly in HIS hands,
Clay
