Sorry it has taken us so long to get another blog posted, but we can only post when we have internet access. Here's a glimpse at the past 3 days...
We left St. Louis and headed to Kansas City, MO. Actually, we didn't have a place to stay in KC, but we made a phone call to the local baptist association (or maybe the state association...I can't remember) who told us to call a guy named Reggie. We called Reggie and he informed us that we could stay at a complex he had, so we agreed. So within less than 10 minutes, we went from no shelter to shelter...isn't God amazing!
When we got to the complex, we found out that it was actually a ministry for people on the street, alcoholics, drug addicts, and other problems. The ministry is called "Set Free" and focuses solely on leading these men to Christ instead of focusing solely on rehabilitation. The men we met there were very interesting a gave us some things to think about. Overnight, we bunked with other men who were living there.
During the day, we decided to go out and witness door-to-door in the neighborhood. As we began our venture out, two ladies hollered for us to come see them. I thought "Man, these women have no idea what they are fixing to hear." As soon as we got to them, one of the ladies asked Austin if he was married and proceeded to talk to Austin while Austin quickly transitioned into the Gospel. Many other interesting things happened while we were there, but I won't go into detail (just ask us later).
The most interesting thing, however, was when we got to talk to the other lady who called us over...Mrs. Beth. Mrs. Beth was a 43-year-old black lady with 7 kids and 3 grandkids. She asked us several great questions and insisted that we give her Bible verses for everything we said so that she could look them up and then teach her kids the Bible. She was extremely open and humble throughout the conversation. We gave her a book of John and One Heartbeat Away (by Mark Cahill); we prayed for her before we left, and when we had finished praying, she prayed to God, thanking Him for us and praying that she would come to a knowledge of the truth and be able to spread that truth to her children. Again, it was awesome to see God at work!
Kansas City was a great experience that neither of us will EVER forget!
