Today, we went to the second seminar on studying the Bible and got to spend some great time fellowshipping with our brothers and sisters in El Paso. After the seminar, Clay got to talk some with the pastor, who was SUPER encouraging and friendly, and we then headed out to do some one on one witnessing.
[Though witnessing to strangers is looked upon as strange by many saints, I encourage you to do a study of the prophets, Jesus, and the apostles' ministries and find out how many times they boldly shared the gospel with strangers. Some key verses to search include:
Matthew- 3, 4:17 and 23, 5:2, 9:35-37, 10:1-15, 11:1 and 7, 13:1-9 and 53-59, 14:14, 15:32, 28:18-20
Mark- 1:14, 21, and 38-39, 2:13, 3:13-14, 4:1, 6:7-13, 16:15
Luke- 4:43, 5:32, 9:1-11, 10:1-22, 13:3 and 5, 14:23, 17:10, 24:46-49
John- 4:34-35
Acts- 17
(And these are only ones I've found by reading through the past few days)]
We went to El Cielo Mall I believe it is called in El Paso, TX where we shared the gospel with many people. Brad first went and shared with Luis who said he was a Christian but still thought his salvation came from good deeds until Brad showed him that Scripture teaches obedience to the law leaves you condemned and that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in the finished work of Christ alone. After the conversation, Luis was left with an astonishing reminder of the folly of man's work to earn salvation for him and became convinced that all we deserve is death and Hell for our sin apart from Christ's work on the cross. I then had a conversation with Jesus (pronounced Hey-soos) who became convinced of his utterly sinful state before his utterly holy and just God and said that he wanted to receive the grace offered through the Lord Jesus Christ by repenting of his sin and trusting in Christ. Knowing that leading someone in a prayer is not necessary and unBiblical (just as leading a husband in saying their sorry to their wife for cheating on them is), I told him to go talk to his God as soon as possible and got his phone number for future encouragment. With teary eyes, Jesus went to hopefully pour every bit of himself at the feet of Christ. We left him with a few gospel tracts with long messages on them (great to leave long tracts with people who will read them!) PRAY FOR JESUS!!! After this I talked to a few guys in the Army going to Iraq in a few weeks and shared with them the importance of repentance and faith in Christ.
We then ate lunch at Chick-fil-A where it was customer appreciation day and we got some free stuff! We headed out to Monohans where we spent the night at a state park there. We set up our tent and Clay and I stared up at the innumerable number of stars while laying on the sand and talking about God's glory revealed through His glorious creation. You can't go lay on the sand in Monohans State Park in Monohans, Texas on a summer night when the sky is clear and honestly be convinced that there is not a God in Heaven!
