This morning, we got up, ate an amazing breakfast (eggs, bacon, orange juice, and homemade biscuits!), washed clothes, got ready, packed up, and headed out into the oven (a.k.a. outside). It was so hot when we stepped outside...it literally felt like sticking your face in front of a hair dryer on full blast. The Kings (who I guess I can call my cousins from here on out) decided that we should meet them to eat snow cones, so we agreed...and boy am I glad we did! After snow cones, we got some ice and water and started for the road again until...I realized I forgot my laptop. We went back to get my laptop then hit the road again to Tucson, AZ.
It took us about 2 1/2 hours or so to get to Tucson. While we were on the road, I was informed that I left my Bible back in Goodyear (where my cousins live), but they generously agreed to ship it to my house (so be looking out Mom and Dad).
I don't know if you noticed, but a few days ago, a guy named Mike wrote us a blog letting us know that we could stay with him when we got to Tucson...so we took him up on his offer. Mike was a great guy who loved the Lord and is excited about evangelism. I could see myself being like Mike in the future...b/c he works to get by AND for opportunities to witness (teaching English as a second language at Arizona University), he designs gospel tracts, and he travels different places to spread the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. When we first got there, Mike invited us to come see the sunset from the roof...and it was beautiful!
After sundown, Mike went out to eat with us at a Mexican restaurant. Honestly, it was encouraging just to be around Mike...he also reminded me a lot of Mark Cahill (his mannerisms, the way he talks, and his zeal to reach the lost). In the restaurant, we got to talk with the waiter (Orlando), who turned out to be a Christian. God really used us to allow Orlando to see that he needs to settle down a little and make time in prayer, in personal Bible study, and with other believers. Orlando thanked us for the conversation, and Mike got his information so he could get in touch with him later. Please pray now that Orlando would fall more and more in love with Christ every day, one day at a time.
That night, we came home and met Mike's roommate (Paul) and heard a little of his testimony. Then everyone sat around to read and study. I was reading a chapter from one of Brad's books (that contains several facts about false religions) focusing on the heresy behind freemasonry (which I was not aware of prior to reading the text). When I got ready to go to bed, I went outside, climbed the ladder, and joined Austin on top of the roof...to sleep! That's right...the roof was flat and Mike said that the roof is actually a nice place to sleep at night, so Austin and I decided to try it out (while Bradley conservatively chose the all-popular bed). While we were lying down, a helicopter was looking for someone pretty close to us; we feared he would fly over us and shine a huge spot light on us (while we would have done nothing but lie there looking like 2 escaped convicts), but it just flew past us. Results: it was really hot on the roof at first, but it got to feeling good at night (so it was pretty nice), but the sun came up really early (about 7am)...so it got hot really early...so we got down really early!
