Day 25 - San Diego, CA to Phoenix, AZ

Today, we packed up and left our ocean front condo in San Diego to search for some ocean front property in Arizona...no luck so far.

Well, we hit the road, but we had to turn back around b/c Austin realized that I forgot my bike! How devastated I would have been if I had got to Phoenix and realized I left it in Cali. On the way to Phoenix, I called some of my family (who I had never met or knew about before) who lives just outside of Phoenix in Goodyear, AZ to see if they could possibly house us for the night. Mr. Wayne (my Nana's cousin) was very excited that we were coming...and I was excited to meet my family...and we were all excited to have a place to stay. We also called a guy in Tucson, AZ (Mike) b/c he mentioned letting us stay with him in a blog comment...so we made arrangements to stay with him tomorrow.

We ate pretty early at a small restaurant in Cali. The waitress was pretty rude...she spoke about 15 words total to us (of which 2 were cuss words). Brad ordered a bowl of soup and a half a sandwich, but he was still hungry b/c the bowl of soup was small and the sandwich was...well...only half a sandwich. Brad felt guilty about getting another bowl, but his hunger talked him into it (although the woman told him he could but that she "didn't see it"). Altogether, the food was pretty good and the restaurant was pretty neat. In fact, in 2003 there was a huge fire in San Diego and the fire stopped right behind their building.

As far as the drive went...it took us about 5 1/2 hours of total driving to get to Phoenix; we all 3 split up the drive; there was lots of brown to see (not much green anymore) and many hills; we had to stop at 2 border control checkpoints (of which, one guy asked us if we were legal citizens...); and Austin and I saw cacti (the plural of cactus) for the first time.

When we got to Goodyear, we had a hard time finding the King's house (Wayne and Reba, daughter Meagan...sp?), but we eventually found it. They gave us a warm welcome and cooked us an awesome meal for dinner. Over dinner, we talked about how we were related and how I actually have family all over America and several other things. After dinner, we watched some of NCIS, unloaded our stuff, washed clothes, and just hung out until bedtime (and I posted pictures to the web). Now, everyone is in bed except me b/c I'm typing this blog b/c they have wireless access...Yessssss!

Well, that's all for now. Stay tuned for more updates...and remember that comments are now free for anyone to post (even without an account)!

Thank you guys for coming to visit San Diego. I can't tell you how encouraging it was to see you all again and watch you plant seeds in the lives of some very desperate people. I pray and trust the Lord for your safe journey back to Georgia and your steady provision along the way. It was so good to see you guys again and to meet you Brad. Take care and until we see each other again, I remain, your brother-in-Christ,
Matt
