Day 12 – Salt Lake City, UT to Wells, NV

Early in the morning, we went to Starbucks to dig into the Word and to brush our teeth. After spending a few hours in Starbucks, we hit the road to go to Wells, NV. You may say to yourself, “I’ve never heard of Wells,” and so did we at first. As soon as we crossed into Nevada (pronounced like bad, not bod), we saw a casino, which we figured would be a good place to stop to eat and witness. We walked into the casino (Me and Austin’s first time in one), and it smelled like smoke and looked like a museum for neon lights; there were tons of slot machines, no windows, no clocks, and several old people. We finally found the buffet (which we found was located at the complete opposite corner of the entrance…hmmm…I wonder why…), but when we found out that it was $13.00 a piece plus tax, we went to Pizza Hut (where Austin made me sit in the droopy seat…I guess you had to be there). Austin got to converse with the cashier, and we gave her a Spanish Gospel of John and a Spanish tract.

When we arrived in Wells, we met Mrs. Margie Storke (a very nice lady who our friend Lorna knows) – the wife of the pastor of the church we were going to stay in for the night (whew, that’s pretty confusing). We hung out with Mrs. Margie and her 3 grandchildren until VBS. We were introduced to Buddy, her grandboy’s bird, who says “hello” when the phone rings, says “come in” when someone knocks on the door (even when Mrs. Margie is asleep), carries on phone conversations, and laughs like Mrs. Margie. When it was time for VBS, we walked over to the church and helped out. I had a great time with the kids…primarily b/c I get to act like them when I’m around them…and I think Austin and Brad had fun as well. For missions time, I spoke about our current mission trip, Austin spoke about previous mission trips he has taken to India and Germany, then the kids asked us several good questions.

After VBS, Mrs. Margie and Pastor Robin fed us chicken fajitas…which were awesome! Then we went to the Hewett’s (Bryan and Michelle and their kids Colter and Jonathan), a family who agreed to house us for the night. They have a Great Dane that occasionally comes in the house; it was fun to play with her. They let us take showers there, wash our clothes, and they fed us waffles and bacon this morning (actually it’s day 13 right now and we’re almost in Reno and Austin is talking to Lorna right now…hey Lorna!), and even let me have the red grapes that we didn’t eat!…man, I love me some grapes!!!

We’re about to meet up with Lorna now, so I’m about to go. Not much has gone on today, but 2 interesting things are that 1) Brad has driven the whole time (about 5 hours) and 2) we saw a funny sign at a rest area (I took a picture of it, so ya’ll can see it too…just hold your horses). Aight, I’m out for now. Please continue to lift us up in prayer.

UPDATE: Austin is doing much better now…thanks for your prayers. Brad’s shoulder has been bothering him a little since we camped out, so please pray for him. I need prayer too, but I can’t think of anything specifically right now. Thanks so much for those who have kept us in your prayer…we have felt every second and every word throughout the trip – thanks again!
